We believe it is important for God’s people to come together in Christian fellowship! Below are some of the opportunities in the life of our congregation:
 ALL-CHURCH MEALS, EVENTS AND ANNUAL RETREATS
We Presbyterians like to eat! Throughout the year, we gather around the table for good food and fellowship. These meals may take place in conjunction with other events, such as Bible studies and Vacation Bible School. In addition, our Advent Meals and program help to get us in the right spirit for the holiday season.
Several times throughout the year, the entire church family has the opportunity to participate in various all-church events. Some of these are: swimming, bowling, picnics, baseball games, and skating. Be on the lookout for announcements about upcoming events by checking out our church calendar.
In addition, our congregation holds an annual all-church retreat, usually in February or March of each year. It is a time of renewal, fellowship, and laughter for all members as we all grow closer to each other and to our God. It is one of the more highly-anticipated events of the church year! KEENAGERS
We are proud to have an active group of older adults who gather once a month for a time of Christian fellowship. Our Keenagers meet on the third Thursday of the month and participate in a group activity or take a short day trip.
Past events have included: lunches at a nearby restaurant, tours of local vineyards, a lake cruise, dinner theater at the Wohlfahrt Haus, visiting a Moravian cookie factory in Winston-Salem, Myrtle Beach and much more.
The Keenagers are always looking for more folks to join in on the fun! Please contact the church office for further information and watch the Grapevine worship bulletin for upcoming events.
TWEENAGERS
What is a "tweenager?" It's a new adult fellowship group at First Presbyterian! It is for any adult who would like to join other adults for fun, fellowship, opportunities to try new things, and to meet other members of our church. We gather for different social events roughly once a quarter that include everything from dinner out to pool parties. Check out our bulletin board upstairs for highlights of our latest gathering or call Gloria King for more details. Hope you can join us!
FAMILY FUN NIGHT
Once a quarter, our preschool through 5th grade children and their families gather for a Sunday afternoon of fun and games in a Biblical context. Please check the church calendar for the next event!
 RALLY DAY
Come help us kick off the beginning of our year of Christian Education at First Presbyterian! Rally Day typically takes place on the last Sunday in August. The festivities begin in the Fellowship Hall with a special intergenerational gathering as we get ready for a new year of Sunday School. We’ll enjoy a light breakfast and recognize our perfect Sunday school attendees for the previous year, as well as introducing our new teachers and break off into classes. Everyone is encouraged to come and dress casually.
At the 11:00 worship we’ll continue the celebration as we commission our teachers. Then comes the real fun – a pig-pickin’ and covered dish picnic for the whole church at the park, directly following worship. We’ll welcome in the new church year with a blast.
NEW MEMBER CLASSES & NEW MEMBER SUNDAY
Once in the fall and once in the spring, we gratefully receive new members into the life of First Presbyterian. If you have been a regular attendee of our church, we encourage you to consider making your relationship official. Please check with the church office for more information.
During the Sunday school hour on the two Sundays prior to the New Member Sunday, we will have a New Member/Inquirer Orientation Class. The purpose of this class is the inform prospective members about our congregation and the larger Presbyterian Church. All who are interested in joining the church are encouraged to attend.
Of course, joining the church is not contingent upon attending these classes, or even on these two dates each year. Anyone interested in learning more about joining the church should speak with the pastor. We are always excited about welcoming people into our family of faith!
PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN AND MEN
The Presbyterian Women is an organization of the Presbyterian Church (USA). It strives to bring women of the church together for important causes in the life of the congregation. Our church has two circles that meet September—May:
Juanita Carter Circle meets the first Monday each month at 7:00pm in a church member’s home.
Circle 1 meets on the first Tuesday of the month at 10:00am in the Women’s Parlor at the church.
Our church also has an active Presbyterian Men’s group. In addition to their weekly Sunday school class, they also host a breakfast in the fall and a steak dinner in the spring for all men of the church. They also provide scholarships for college students.
