Beacons on Sunday Night
Youth are not only the future of the church – they are the present as well!
Our church is blessed to have an active and vibrant youth ministry, known as the “Beacons.” Led by our Director of Christian Education, along with trained adult advisors, our 6th-12 graders meet every Sunday night during the school year at the “Lighthouse,” a house right next door to our church. Our regular schedule is as follows:
5:30 Snack supper
6:00 Recreation/ music
6:30 Bible study/devotions
Youth Sunday
Twice a year, our youth lead the congregation in meaningful worship at our 11:00 service. The youth are responsible for all planning and preparation. It is always a highlight of the church’s worship year. For more information, please see Shasta Bode-Brown.
Montreat & Other Retreats
Throughout the year, the youth group embarks on numerous retreat experiences in order to grow closer to God and each other. These include: middle school retreat, senior high retreat, Montreat Summer youth conference for Senior Highs, and an all-youth retreat.
Summer Mission Trips
For one week each summer, the youth of our church follow Christ’s command to “go out into the world” and extend God’s love and grace to others—always finding they are blessed in return as well. Previous destinations have included: Georgia, Tennessee, the Bahamas, and Morehead City, NC.
Confirmation Program
Confirmation can be a fun experience! All 6th graders and other non-confirmed youth are invited to be part of this important program in the church. Each young person is teamed up with an adult, meeting roughly once a week to journey together as they share their thoughts and feelings on a variety of Christian beliefs and doctrine (including baptism, who God is, death and resurrection, the Bible, and many more). It’s a great way for our young people to “confirm” their faith.
This program typically begins with a kick-off program in early January and concludes in April. At that time, each confirmand prepares a Statement of Faith, examination by the session, and be welcomed into church membership in worship.
Want to be a Mentor?
We always need caring adults who enjoy sharing their faith with young people to serve as mentors and who are interested in growing themselves. Interested? Please get in touch with either Shasta or Steve. |
